If you're filing an insurance claim for storm damage, your contractor's estimate format matters as much as the numbers in it.
What Xactimate is
Xactimate is the estimating software used by virtually all major insurance companies — State Farm, Citizens, Allstate, USAA — to price property damage claims. It creates line-item estimates in a standardized format that adjusters recognize and can compare directly to their own assessment.
Why it matters for your claim
A contractor who submits a handwritten estimate or a Word document creates friction with your adjuster. An Xactimate-formatted estimate speaks the adjuster's language, line by line, and makes it far easier to get supplements approved.
Supplements and Xactimate
When the contractor finds damage the adjuster missed — and they almost always do — supplements are filed to increase the insurance payout. Supplements live and die by line-item documentation. A contractor fluent in Xactimate can fight for every dollar.
"I'll write you a letter for the insurance company." A letter is not an Xactimate estimate. A contractor who has never heard of Xactimate has not done serious storm work.
