Typical timeline breakdown
- Estimate to contract: 1–3 days in normal times; up to a week post-storm
- Permit pulled: 3–10 business days depending on jurisdiction
- Materials ordered and delivered: 1–5 business days
- Installation: 1–3 days for an average residential roof
- Final inspection: 2–5 business days after completion
Post-storm reality
After a major hurricane, the most experienced and reputable contractors are booked 4–8 weeks out. If someone can start "tomorrow" after a major storm event — ask why.
Get it in writing
The contract should include: expected start date, estimated completion date, weather delay policy, and what constitutes an acceptable delay vs. a breach of contract.
🚩 Red flag
A contractor who refuses to commit to any timeline. Or one who promises "next week" when every other reputable contractor in your area is 6 weeks out.
